My life is just crazy right now. I bet yours is too. How do we find the time to do all the things we need to do? I have no idea. Because time doesn’t wait. And it is true, time flies.
So how do we find just enough time?
For me, the answer is the morning hour. I have always been a morning person. I love the quiet of the house before the family is up and going. I relish the solitude of the page and a cup of tea. I need this time to recharge. I am most productive in the morning. Things that need my full attention happen best in the morning.
My morning ritual is not always the same. But it has a rhythm to it that works for me. I’ve spent a long time refining it and I suspect it will continue to change as I have changed. Here’s my current routine:
- Wake up and stretch. I try not to hit the snooze button. I have a 50/50 success rate on that one.
- Morning Pages. I learned this years ago from Julia Cameron in her amazing book, The Artist’s Way. Simply take a notebook and write for three pages. No editing. No judgement. Just write. For me, it gets me pointed in a good direction for the day. Try it. It will change you.
- Exercise to get the blood flowing for the day. If I don’t do it now, it won’t happen.
- Start the day. I am now ready to start the day. With my soul intact and my intentions in front of me. There is usually a cup of tea involved.
Just One Hour
It’s just one hour. But I need it the way I need food. It feeds me. I don’t function well throughout the day if I don’t. Do what works for you. Start with getting up a few minutes early. Think about what would help to make your day better. Take time to nourish your soul and your body. It makes a difference. It really does.
